This may not be like a lot of macaroni and cheese recipes, but it just tastes like home to me. My mom use to make this all of the time and its one of my favorites.

ree

3 tbsp butter or margarine

1/4 cup flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp dry mustard

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 1/2 cups milk, warmed in microwave

2 cups shredded white American cheese (get sliced from deli and then chop it up)

16oz elbow macaroni, cooked and drained

1/4 cup bread crumbs

In a 2 quart saucepan melt butter over low/med heat. Stir in flour, salt, mustard and pepper and cook for 1 minute.

Remove from heat and gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Stir constantly, over medium heat, for about 10 minutes or until thickened. Remove from hear and stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese.

Turn macaroni into a greased casserole dish and pour cheese sauce over and mix.

Mix in a bowl bread crumbs and remaining cheese, then sprinkle on top.

Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

*My family tradition is to put a little tomato sauce over the top when eating!
